The Kid Who Went Through Time

The Kid Who Went Through Time

Trevor was the nicest boy on the block.  He always ate his vegetables, went to bed before 8:00 and frequently washed behind his ears.

Never was he late for dinner, mean to his parents or greedy for candy.

In his 6 years on this Earth, Trevor was never particularly interested in anything except for dinosaurs and black socks.

One day, on a windy day in April, Trevor went back in time.

When asked about the occurrence years later, all Trevor could say was,

“I just remember eating blueberries.”

And that was the truth, too.  Trevor was munching on blueberries when he fell on a pile of leaves in a rainforest, in the year 1 Million B.C.

Of course, Trevor had no idea how or why he traveled back in time, nor did he realize that he was back in time.

It occurred to him that something was off when an enormous Stegosaurus walked across his path.

Trevor yelped and fell backwards.  The massive dinosaur looked at him and paused.

“Uh…hello.” said Trevor.

The Stegosaurus bent down and ate a pile of leaves, inadvertently snatching one of Trevor’s orange sneakers.

 “Hey!” yelled Trevor.  “You jerk!”

With an angry start, Trevor leaped up and slapped the dinosaur on it’s foot.

The Stegosaurus did not seem to notice.  It grunted and walked away, leaving Trevor in a pile of leaves, shoeless.

“Well what now!?” exclaimed a frustrated Trevor.

For hours, the shoeless Trevor walked around the Jurassic maze that he had found himself in.

All of a sudden, a noise broke the silence of the great terrain – Trevor’s rumbling stomach.

He decided to sit down and think.  He remembered how his grandfather took him camping the prior summer and picked blueberries for him.

Trevor was now on a mission—a mission for blueberries.

The shoeless boy walked around, whipping his arms through the massive trees looking for anything even resembling a blueberry.

All of a sudden, like the sun emerging from the clouds, he saw it in front of him.

The biggest blueberry he’d ever seen in his life.

It had to be the size of a basketball, if not bigger.

He reached out and took a huge bite.  It was the greatest thing he’d ever eaten ever!

“Hey!” yelled a voice.

 Trevor jumped.

“That’s mine!” said the voice again.

“Who…who…where are you?”

“Down here,” said the voice.

Trevor looked at his feet and saw a tiny dinosaur.

“Oh! Hi.” said an unsure Trevor.  “What your name?”

Steve.  The dinosaur.  You ate my huge blueberry.”

“I’m sorry,” said Trevor.  “I was really hungry.”

“No biggie.   Hey - what are you supposed to be?”

“I’m a boy,” exclaimed Trevor.

“Such weird looking claws and scales.  Where are you from?” asked Steve.

“My Mom’s house.  How about you?”

“I live in the cave over there.”  Steve pointed.  ”You need help going home or something?”

“That’d be cool!” said Trevor.

“OK.  Check it.  All you need to do is jump three times, stick out your tongue, and yell -

Baggalaggalagglaggalagga!

Trevor, while skeptical, did want to go home.

He followed Steve’s directions exactly, even when he yelled -

Baggalaggalagglaggalagga!

Suddenly, like magic, he was home in his bed.

Trevor?” yelled Mom.  ”Lunch is ready!”

Trevor sleepily walked to the kitchen.

Mom!  I’m back!”

From where, honey?” asked his Mom.

“The jungle!  Steve the tiny dinosaur told me how to get home!”

 Trevor’s Mom laughed.

“How did you do it?!”

Trevor jumped three times, stuck his tongue out and yelled -

Baggalaggalaggalaggalagga!

 Mom erupted in laughter.

“That’s adorable, sweetheart.  You must’ve had a dream.  Lunch is on the table.”

Trevor’s face twisted in confusion.  He was sure it was real.  He had seen the Stegosaurus AND Steve the tiny dinosaur.

“But…!” Trevor paused.  He knew no one would believe him.

“What’s for lunch?” he asked.

“Peanut butter and blueberry jam,” said his Mom.

“Blueberries?!” said Trevor.  “Uh, maybe I could try strawberries instead?”

“Of course you can sweetie.  By the way, where is your other shoe?”

Trevor couldn’t help but smile as he bit into a delicious, red strawberry.
